THE PERIYAR PROJECT is an academic forum on Periyar (1879-1973). It will feature select translations of key works of Periyar as well as short articles from academics and intellectuals on his ideas and their relevance today. The aim of this website is to encourage global critical engagement with the wide-ranging thoughts of this important leader from South India.
Dr. Karthick Ram Manoharan, SFHEA
I am currently Marie-Sklodowska Curie Actions Individual Fellow at the University of Wolverhampton. I am working on the political thought of Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, a rationalist anti-caste leader from South India. I will be supervised by Prof. Meena Dhanda, Professor of Philosophy and Cultural Politics, UoW, for the course of this project.
I am the author of Frantz Fanon: Identity and Resistance (Orient BlackSwan 2019) and the co-editor of Rethinking Social Justice (Orient BlackSwan 2020). Taking a transdisciplinary approach, I have authored several academic and non-academic articles that deal with political theory and philosophy, intellectual history, identity, modern Tamil politics, caste, and cinema.
